Cranial Sacral Therapy: Why I love it?
My first experience with Cranial Sacral was after I was in a very intense and emotionally jarring car accident at the young age of 17 years old.
I was stopped behind a car that was waiting to take a left turn. Just as the car in front of me turned, boom I was slapped from behind by a car that I found out later was driving over 40 MPH. My tiny Cabriolet Convertible, which barely missed the car in front of me, was hit so hard it launched my car many feet forward leaving both my friend and I in shock and severely concussed, even with seatbelts on!
This was one of those big moments for me where I discovered the level of my innate inner mama bear reaction. The moment I saw my friend had been hurt, I lost control of my emotions and after confirming she was ok enough to communicate, I remember a surge of anger shortly after the initial fear hit. The anger propelled me to jump out of the car screaming and running after the young boy who had hit us driving well over the 25 mph limit.
My memory of the events was in and out, likely from the adrenaline and shock, I only remember seeing the kid's face, the feeling of rage towards him for hurting my friend, and then our high school security guard running after me to hold me back from making contact with the young boy. I honestly think I intended to punch him.
The sense of enraged thoughts, emotions, and clear shock soon after the guard ushered me back to my car left me with my last memory of being passed out in an ambulance remembering the feeling of painful pressure in my head from being strapped into the gurney.
Hours later I woke up in a dark room in the ER, calm, tired alone. Soon after the Dr. entered to inform me of my location and condition.
I don’t remember being given much guidance on how to care for myself after what had happened. Rest, pain killers, and staying alert to my behavior from a mild concussion, but not much on rehabilitation.
Back then, I didn’t know how that experience could have easily left a traumatic, physical, and emotional imprint that likely may have been way worse if I had not been so lucky to be guided by my spirit mom who was working as an LMT and using alternative therapies of healing, such as Acupuncture, Reiki, and more. She led me to try the subtle yet extremely powerful work of Cranial Sacral Therapy.
I went regularly to a man, who did all these subtle gentle holding positions. I didn’t understand it at the time nor did I need to. All I knew it was doing something to my brain, because I was out within minutes of him holding my head and in a deep meditative state for over an hour.I remember heat and the release of a lot of intense energy, even tears from sadness and some of the deep anger I had felt. I didn’t know exactly why or what it was about, but I knew I felt more aligned and at peace after each session.
Now almost 20 years later, I am an LMT and studied in Upledger’s Level 1 & 2, I understand so much more how it completely shifted my emotional, mental, and physical state. Had I not received it I may have been dealing with a lot more, “trauma like” symptoms and physical pain as an adult.
What does it do?
It gives your nervous system a reboot!
Cranial Sacral is a system that maintains the physiological environment for the brain and nervous system. It is its own semi-closed hydraulic system that was discovered by William G Sutherland, DO. and developed by Osteopathic physician John E. Upledger.
The CS system is contained within a waterproof membrane (Dura Mater) that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. It has its own natural rhythm which rises and falls, expands and contracts creating a healthy production and reabsorption of the Cerebrospinal fluid.
This system extends from the Cranium (skull) to the Sacrum (tailbone) of the body.
It is a lighter treatment achieved physically and energetically that is excellent for releasing stress, migraines, back and neck pain, TMJ disorder, diaphragm stress, hip pain, and more.
In order to restore the natural flow of the cerebrospinal fluid, the focus of this work is primarily on the cranial sutures, the diaphragms, the connective tissue of cranium and spine where it’s restricted or obstructed.
Need help with stress and tension in the body, headaches, anxiety, and circulation ??
Have you experienced some level of concussion or know you had some intense falls that left you feeling off?
Cranial Sacral is excellent for helping all of this especially after you’ve consulted your Dr.!
Through receiving and working it into my personal practice, I’ve learned it also is an excellent way to tap into your intuition and enhance your psychic senses.
In the work that I do with my clients I love to weave in the Angelic Energy Work with the Cranial Sacral poses, which inspires powerful transformation on all levels. For me personally it’s helped release emotional blocks, to safely have past forgotten memories arise for greater awareness and finally clear those blocks to help myself heal.
In working with others not only has it helped release trapped emotions and patterns of the body, it invites a deep sense of peace for people to learn what stillness can be. Through this work we allow the body to do what it is designed to do.
Be still and reset itself!
In CS this is called a “Still Point”.
If you are ready to help your body heal, reset your nervous system, and enhance your intuitive psychic self, please reach out to learn more and have your first experience of Cranial Sacral in energy and beyond.
And for those at home, who want to start today on allowing the brain to achieve a “still point” sensation, here is a easy way to help your nervous system quiet down and reset, recharge. Of course it’s not quite the same as an actual session with the human energetic intent, but it still a start.
Buy or create your own Cranial Sacral Upledger technique “ Still Point Inducer”.
Make your own with two tennis balls tethered tandem touching one another. Place in the toe of a sock and then tight it off knotted tightly to hold the two balls in place.
To make sure the balls stay in contact, place the sock inside another sock and tie tightly.
Lie down on the floor or on bed placing the device under your head. Place the occipital bone ( the pointy bump on the back of the head) aligned between the valley of the two tennis balls. (They should be symmetrical with respect to the midline.)The level is slightly above the ear opening. #Relax and #rest the weight of the head on the two balls. Chin will be level, but slightly tilted up, placement not to stress the neck muscles.
Rest for 10-15 min daily. Shift positions slightly to maintain symmetry and comfort, but do this gently and gradually.
This is considered a good “shotgun” technique for enhancing fluid motion and relaxing the connective tissue throughout the body, while restoring the flexibility of autonomic nervous system response. It can improve #circulation which helps with symptoms of arthritis, #headaches, reduce #anxiety, #inflammation, digestion, acute pain, metabolic waste, and more.
It’s like a mini reboot to the nervous system.
This supports the Craniosacral system which is related to the function of the nervous system, directly the cranium, spine and pelvis, related fascia, and other systems. “Still points” in the Cranial Sacral rhythmical impulse is effective for mobilizing the systems inherent self-correcting abilities, which can have beneficial effects throughout the body.
When we stop and allow the body time and space to do what it’s designed to do, it will find #harmony and #heal.
